Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
-
What is an OCT Scan?
An optical coherence tomography scan (OCT) lets us examine your eyes in even greater detail.
It allows us to not only see the surface of your retina, but also lets us see details that are hidden within.
-
Why is it different to a normal sight test?
A sight test checks how well you can see, what glasses or contact lenses you might need and the health of your eyes, but an OCT gives us even more detail that otherwise can’t be seen.
-
Who should have an OCT?
OCT is particularly useful for older patients, but it is also important for anyone with a history of eye disease or for anyone with a history of eye problems in the family, such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
-
How much is it?
Unfortunately OCT scans aren’t funded by the NHS, but because we consider it such an important tool we have kept the additional charge as low as possible. OCT is available for an additional charge of just £10.
